The Pretoria Magistrates’ Court has officially withdrawn all charges against suspended National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola in the SAPS-Medicare 24 Tshwane District tender. This after the National Prosecuting Authority ordered the withdrawal of all the charges saying there was no prospect of a successful prosecution.
Masemola was suspended after being accused of failing to provide oversight in the multi-million-rand contract awarded to alleged criminal kingpin Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala. Masemola had faced four charges related to the violation of the Public Finance Management Act.
Speaking outside court, Masemola said the past couple of months had been difficult.
“It has been tough, as I said, very painful road, very tough and, of course, I had to go through, unfortunately. I don’t wish anyone to go through this very same route. That’s why I’m saying probably they should let investigation be done by investigators, and let prosecution decide on mental health, but don’t conflict the truth in one department or institution.”
