From having been the best defensive midfielder to ever play for Kaizer Chiefs through the PSL era years, Tinashe Nengomasha is standing up to earn his stripes again post his playing career.
Nengomasha has invested his efforts in uplifting himself in the career path that he has now taken.
He will graduate in the FIFA/CIES International Programme in Sports Management at the Nelson Mandela University.
The renowned course is offered in association with the International Centre for Sport Studies.
According to the course’s outline, the primary objective of this qualification is to provide an advanced skill based short learning programme that focuses on selected areas within the management of sport.
“In so doing the course aims to offer students important tools they can use to enhance the manner in which they manage their federation, their association, or their club, in accordance with the realities of South Africa and its neighbouring countries,” it reads.
The retired workhorse is now working as team manager at yesteryear cup kings CAPS United in Zimbabwe.
In that job, he has coaching mastermind Takesure Chiragwi as head coach and former Orlando Pirates midfielder Josephy Kamwendo as one of two assistants.
Nengomasha and Chiragwi were together at Ngezi Platinum, where they won the league and Castle Challenge Cup, then got to have a feel of CAF Champions League football.
The former Zimbabwe international earned undisputed legendary status wearing Amakhosi colours after he arrived during the 2001/02 season and then left in June 2012 having won all there was to win in South African football.
From individual awards that include KICK OFF Footballer of the Season and both the PSL Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season to club trophies – the league title, Coca-Cola Cup, ABSA Cup, SAA Supa8/MTN8, and the Telkom Knockout, Nengomasha won it all.

Beyond that, he played over 300 games for Chiefs, establishing himself as a bona fide legend at the club.
After his time reporting for duty at Naturena, he then went on to play for Wits and Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Such was his influence in the PSL that he is still held in high esteem for what he did on the pitch.
This is why any debate about the best defensive midfielder to ever play not just at Chiefs but in the PSL will be dilute minus the mention of the man known as ‘Father’.
