CCTV Captures Alleged Thieves Stealing Automated Gate Motor from KZN Home

Residents in a KwaZulu-Natal neighbourhood were left frustrated after CCTV cameras allegedly captured two suspects stealing the electric gate motor from a residential property during the early hours of the morning, according to report.

In this account, the suspects arrived on foot shortly after 2:00 a.m. and appeared to survey the property before approaching the automated gate. The CCTV footage reportedly shows one suspect acting as a lookout while the other dismantled the gate motor—the electric device that powers the opening and closing of the gate.

According to the report, the pair completed the theft in just a few minutes before fleeing with the equipment. The homeowner reportedly discovered the missing gate motor later that morning after the gate failed to open automatically.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the story responded to the scene and reviewed the CCTV footage as part of an investigation. Detectives are also examining whether the suspects may be linked to similar thefts reported in nearby suburbs.

Security experts noted in the report that automated gate motors have become attractive targets because they can be resold or stripped for parts. Homeowners are encouraged to install anti-theft brackets, protective cages, alarm systems, and visible surveillance cameras to help deter criminals.
