There are a few players who are at risk of missing the Soweto derby this weekend if they get booked in their Carling Knockout Cup matches on Tuesday.

Orlando Pirates host Kaizer Chiefs in the first Soweto derby of the season at FNB Stadium this Saturday, but they are a few players on a tightrope.

Pirates take on Milford FC in the Carling Knockout last 16 tomorrow night, while Chiefs host TS Galaxy.

On the Pirates side, Simphiwe Masilela is the only one who is skating on thin ice. Masilela has accumulated three yellow cards and will miss the derby if he gets booked against Milford.

Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou could be tempted to rest the attacking midfielder to ensure he is available to face Amakhosi this weekend.

The 22-year-old has proven to be a key component in attack for the Buccaneers, using his pace, skill and ability to drive the team forward as his weapons to unsettle the opposition. The Buccaneers would not want to go into the derby without having him as an option.

Amakhosi have two players who are on three yellow cards and both of them are defenders. Inacio Miguel and Thabo Moloisane are at risk of missing the derby this weekend if they get booked.

Miguel has played every minute of Chiefs’ matches in the Betway Premiership so far this season, while Moloisane only missed the first two games of the campaign in the league.

Losing the defenders would be a big blow for Amakhosi, who are in a difficult period after getting knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup.
