Bafana players and staff still waiting…

Bafana Bafana players and staff are yet to receive their 2026 World Cup bonuses from South African football’s mother body SAFA, that’s according to an insider.

Following Bafana’s historic run to the FIFA World Cup’s knockout stages, every player that was part of the 26-men squad is set to cash in on a R2.5 million individual player bonuses.

SAFA pocketed R259 million from FIFA, which includes participation money, and the performance bonuses for reaching the global showpiece’s knockout stages.

Under a pre-tournament agreement, R65 million, which is roughly around 30% of the money, was allocated to the players and the technical staff.

Apparently, departed coach Hugo Broos is set to receive R21.8 million, assistant coach Helman Mkhalele will get R8 million, while the rest of the technical staff will get a 2% pool.

“Players and staff have still not received their bonuses from the 2026 World Cup. SAFA got their money six weeks ago. They said they would pay before [the] end of August,” said a source.

Minister of Sports, Arts and Recreation Gayton McKenzie has promised an extra R5 million that will be shared by the squad.

For their part, SAFA did not respond to a KickOff query on the matter but have since released a statement clarifying the delay.

“SAFA is committed to finalising the process as expeditiously as possible and ensuring that all legitimate bonuses are paid,” reads the statement, in part.
