AfriForum takes EFF; Malema to court over land occupation calls
AfriForum has filed a contempt of court application in the High Court in Pretoria against the EFF and party leader Julius Malema.
The application follows renewed calls by Malema and the EFF for the occupation of land without the permission of owners or lawful occupants.
The lobby group believes the calls are in breach of a 2017 court order that prohibits Malema and the EFF from encouraging, instructing or facilitating people to trespass on or occupy land unlawfully.
It approached the court following a recent EFF public lecture at the University of Limpopo in Polokwane, where they allege Malema spoke about young people eventually entering and occupying a farm in Stellenbosch.
It’s a serious offence and that is why we are asking for a big fine and or imprisonment,
said AfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel.
The EFF and Malema made several attempts to overturn the order, eventually reaching the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court of Appeal.
