Suspect arrested who was allegedly involved in a “cash-for-driver’s licence” corruption scheme at the Marble Hall Driving Licence Testing Centre in Limpopo

A joint operation between the South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Intelligence and the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has led to the arrest of a suspect allegedly involved in a “cash-for-driver’s licence” corruption scheme at the Marble Hall Driving Licence Testing Centre in Limpopo.

The suspect was arrested by SAPS and was found in possession of several learner’s licences. The operation remains ongoing in Marble Hall, with further arrests possible.

The intelligence-led operation intercepted suspects from KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo who were allegedly en route to collect illicitly issued learner’s licences.

The SIU’s investigation, conducted under its Department of Transport proclamation, found that a suspect from KwaZulu-Natal allegedly solicited R2 000 per licence from applicants, promising to secure learner’s licences without them undergoing the required testing process.
