Biker critically injured when crashing a superbike into the rear of a stationary vehicle

Incident Description:

At approximately 05:00 on 14 September 2026 management of Empire Protection Service were travelling southbound on the N2 after Westwood Mall in Durban when they came across a serious road traffic accident.

It is believed that a superbike collided with the rear of a stationary motor vehicle which had stopped towards the left shoulder of the roadway after experiencing a tyre blowout.

Members of Empire Protection Service stopped and immediately assisted at the scene.

A Captain from the South African Police Service K9 Unit who was passing the scene also stopped and assisted with the initial response and management of the incident.

Patient Assessment:

Upon assessment of the scene it was established that only the motorcycle rider was injured.

The rider had been ejected from the motorcycle following the collision.

During the initial patient care assessment emergency medical personnel established that the injured male had been thrown several hundred metres from his motorcycle and suffered a suspected fractured arm and had presented with loss of consciousness.

The patient also presented with bleeding from the ears and nose which raised serious concerns of significant head injuries.

Due to the severity of the patients condition ALS paramedic intervention was required.

Upon arrival of ALS paramedic the patient received advanced medical treatment and was placed into a medically induced coma before being rapidly transported by ambulance to Ahamad Al Khadi Private Hospital for further medical intervention and treatment.

It was later established that the injured male is a firefighter at the Port of Durban.
