Two armed robbery suspects were shot and killed in a shootout with police in Clare Estate. A third suspect was arrested.
According to reports, members of Sydenham SAPS witnessed a businessman being robbed on Burnwood Road this evening. Three suspects travelling in a white Kia Picanto allegedly robbed the victim of cash and cellphones before fleeing the scene.
Police officers immediately gave chase. During the pursuit, the suspects reportedly crashed their vehicle on Clare Road. Two suspects then allegedly exited the vehicle and attempted to shoot at officers while trying to escape.
The two suspects were fatally wounded during the exchange of gunfire, while a third accomplice was arrested at the scene.
Police recovered two firearms. Officers attached to the Sydenham SAPS Trio Task Team and Sydenham SAPS Crime Prevention reportedly escaped without injuries.
