In-Form Mailula sends Downs level with Bucs & Chiefs

Mamelodi Sundowns got back to winning ways in the Betway Premiership table with a 2-0 victory over Marumo Gallants on Wednesday evening.

Masandawana targeted their second win of the season after a 1-1 against Kaizer Chiefs, while Gallants were lookingo for their first win a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Stellenbosch FC in Cape Town five days ago.
Masandawana made their intentions known and seized the control in the 21st minute when Malibongwe Khoza positioned perfectly in the area to get onto a knockdown by Bathusi Aubaas and volley home his first goal of the campaign.
The Tshwane giants looked to double their lead in a dominant opening-quarter through a snap-shot on the near side by Bennet Mokoena, but the debutant between the sticks Emile Lako did well to make the save,
Bahlabane Ba Ntwa’s first scare came shortly thereafter following a header at the near post by Msindisi Kunene from a cross-field ball right of the midfield, but goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was alert to the danger and made the save.
Sundowns were forced into a change ten minutes to the break when Khuliso Mudau suffered an injury had to be replaced by Zuko Mdunyelwa, which comes as bad news as they face Golden Arrows in the MTN8 semi-finals on Sunday.
Masandawana’s dominance continued in the second half, although they initially failed to add to their tally as a first-time pass by Mokoena following a counter-attack released Cassius Mailula in on goal, but Lako made himself big and pulled off the save.
Mailula, however, came good midway into the second half after making space for himself in the area to get onto a pass from Leon and fired into the top corner to continue his scoring run early on into the campaign.
Bahlabane Ba Ntwa weren’t looking to go down without a fight and almost pulled a goal back in the final minutes with a speculative shot on the near side of the area by Katlego Otladisa, but Williams made a stop.
Masandawana still enjoyed the better of chances though and nearly added a third goal when new signing Siyanda Ndlovu came in on the far side to cut into the area and unleashed a low shot, but Lako palmed away as the two goals were enough to secure maximum points.
