FNB Stadium Bracing for Sold-Out Chiefs vs Sundowns Blockbuster
Kaizer Chiefs will host Mamelodi Sundowns at the FNB Stadium on Saturday in what is shaping up to be a sold-out Betway Premiership showdown, with ticket sales already soaring past the 32 000 mark.

Stadium Management South Africa (SMSA) confirmed the impressive figures during a press conference at the Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena on Thursday afternoon, with expectations that sales will climb even higher by Friday.
SMSA’s Bertie Grobbelaar addressed the media and gave a detailed update on the ticket situation, while also taking a light-hearted dig at Chiefs’ media officer Vina Maphosa’s optimism.
“I hear that Vina said between 35 000 and 40 000 tickets sold. He’s a bit over-optimistic at today’s date. We’re just over 32 000 sold, but that is a good number on a Thursday before the event.
Additionally, at FNB Stadium, we see the actual sales happening on the Friday afternoon and on match day itself.
So, I’m confident that we will have a close-to-capacity crowd and I hope that the weather holds as well,” Grobbelaar told the media.
Grobbelaar also touched on the impact of poor weather conditions on matchday attendance, referencing the experience during a recent fixture against Sekhukhune United.
“It was terrible last night for anyone to be outside. So, yeah, we’re just around 32 000,” he observed.
With the biggest fixture on the South African football calendar fast approaching, all eyes will be on whether the FNB Stadium reaches its full capacity — weather permitting.
