There are heightened safety concerns in Langa on the Cape Flats following a shooting incident in which four young men and a woman were killed at the weekend.

Eleven people were killed in three separate shooting incidents on the Cape Flats at the weekend.

Violent crime is continuing unabated on the Cape Flats despite the deployment of members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to the area to assist police.

Community leader and Councillor, Lwazi Pakade says, “So the mood in community is quite upset. They are shocked because this is also the first time that we are experiencing a mass shooting of this nature in the community. We always consider Langa as one of the safer communities in Cape Town where people always feel welcome, but this incident has shocked us.”
