Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has given an important update on the progress of pre-season signing Siyanda Ndlovu, who was on in the matchday squad in the club’s opening match of the season over the weekend.
Arguably one of the most exciting signings of the transfer window, Ndlovu suffered an early setback after arriving at Sundowns but he is making good progress and it might not be long before the club’s supporting see him terrorising opposition defenders.
According to Cardoso, Ndlovu sustained an injury early in pre-season and did not take part in their preparations ahead of the new campaign.
“Siyanda got a muscle injury at the beginning of the preparations, so basically he didn’t train the whole pre-season. He just started with the team two days ago,” Cardoso said on Saturday.
“He is unfortunately in the early stages of adapation of being with us. He gave us very good signs in the beginning, but then he got that small injury that took him three weeks until now. He made full recovery, so he is training already. We had a friendly match (on Saturday morning). We didn’t expose him to that game because the last three days he trained normal and high levels of commitment and we didn’t want to force him again, so we have him some rest. Beautiful signs from him, very excited to see what he can give to the team.” He will be back soon.”
Orlando Pirates was reportedly leading the race to sign Ndlovu from Golden Arrows, but the player ended up penning a long-term deal with Sundowns after a deal fell through with the Buccaneers.
Sundowns, meanwhile, started their campaign with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Polokwane City in the MTN8, and then will take on TS Galaxy in the Betway Premiership at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday.
