French football icon Thierry Henry will get to witness the rivalry between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, as he has confirmed that he will be at the Soweto Derby this weekend!

South Africa’s biggest football spectacle takes place this Saturday afternoon when Pirates host their rivals Chiefs at FNB Stadium.

Among the more than 94,000 people expected to witness the occasion live at the Calabash will be French legend Henry.

Henry needs no introduction to football lovers, thanks to his illustrious career, which saw him wear the shirts of Arsenal and FC Barcelona, as well as win the 1998 FIFA World Cup with France.

Just this week, Henry was one of the hosts of the 2026 Ballon d’Or Awards in London, and less than a week later, he will be in Soweto.

As a Betway global ambassador, Henry will now be treated to the Betway Premiership’s biggest fixture.

He told Betway: “I’ve experienced some incredible football rivalries around the world, and I know how much the Soweto Derby means to supporters in South Africa. I’m excited to experience that atmosphere at FNB Stadium and to meet some of the fans who make the occasion what it is.”

Jason Shield, Head of Sponsorship at Betway Africa, said: “The Soweto Derby represents everything that makes South African football special, the passion, the rivalry and, most importantly, the supporters who bring it to life. To have Thierry with us for such an important occasion, particularly as we celebrate 30 years of the PSL, makes this Derby even more memorable.”
