Ouaddou Provides Appollis Injury Update At Pirates
Oswin Appollis in Orlando Pirates training ahead of the second leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round fixture against African Stars
Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has provided an update on Oswin Appollis after the winger returned to training, although the Buccaneers are taking a cautious approach to his recovery.
Appollis missed Pirates’ 1-0 victory over African Stars in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round tie after being stretchered off during the team’s 3-0 Betway Premiership win over TS Galaxy.

The 25-year-old Bafana Bafana international had raised concerns after his withdrawal against Galaxy, with Pirates subsequently monitoring his condition ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.
Speaking to journalists during the club’s media day at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Thursday, ahead of Friday’s return leg against African Stars, Ouaddou confirmed that Appollis had resumed training as the technical team assessed his condition.
“Look, I’m happy that he’s coming back in training. The target today was to assess him, to see what he’s able to do, and we start with the warm-up to see if he can sprint. So, it’s good news that I spoke with him at the end of training.
“He told me that he doesn’t feel any more pain. But at the same time, you have to understand that Oswin is really an important player in our team. I call them, they are all Ferraris, you know.
“They are all Ferraris. It means Ferraris, you have to take care of the engine very well, and I don’t want to take a risk with one of the important players. So, we have many games, somebody mentioned it, important games.
“So, we have to be careful and not to burn the stages more,” Ouaddou told journalists.
The coach’s comments suggest that, although Appollis has made progress and is no longer experiencing pain, the club will not rush him back into competitive action before he is ready.
Pirates face African Stars on Friday with a place in the CAF Champions League group stages at stake, while the Carling Knockout Cup campaign and the Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs on October 31 also feature in their upcoming schedule.

Appollis had made an immediate impact upon returning to the starting line-up against TS Galaxy, providing the assist for Boitumelo Radiopane’s opening goal before his evening was cut short.
With several important fixtures approaching, Pirates will be keen to manage his recovery carefully as they look to have the winger available for the challenges ahead.
