Cold water has been poured over reports linking South African attacking midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch to Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs.

Social media has been completely abuzz with speculative reports linking former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns star Thembinkosi Lorch with a sensational move to Kaizer Chiefs.

The experienced midfielder had been spotted around the Amakhosi setup at FNB Stadium, fuelling reports, debates and excitement from fans over a move to Chiefs.

However, a source close to proceedings at the Naturena-based outfit has informed this publication that a move for the 33-year-old to Chiefs will not be happening, and that it was never on the cards.

“No [Lorch is not joining Chiefs], nothing like that from what I know. It might have started on social media,” the insider briefly assured this publication.

The former PSL Footballer of the Season was briefly back in South Africa recently, but he has already boarded a flight back to North Africa.

Lorch has officially returned to his parent club, Al Ittihad Tripoli, where he is back in training with the side after a failed move to Moroccan champions MAS Fès.

With the Lorch door firmly shut, Kaizer Chiefs remain actively on the market as they look to inject proven quality and mentorship into their youthful squad.

Head coach Fernando Da Cruz has a limited window left to finalise his squad, as the South African domestic transfer window is officially set to slam shut on 22 September.

Aside from a surprise MTN8 exit in the first round, Chiefs have been in impressive form so far in 2026/27, collecting two wins and a draw from their opening three matches.

Chiefs have also been impressive in the transfer market, managing to secure the signature of highly rated young stars Langelihle Phili and Fiaz Abrahams from Stellenbosch.
