Cyril Ramaphosa unveils 4-point plan to tackle gender-based violence
President Cyril Ramaphosa has outlined a multi-disciplinary national strategy to address the growing scourge of Gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) in the country.
The plan will involve a coordinated fact-finding mission including a full count of the backlog related to GBVF cases countrywide.
The president was addressing the country at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Tuesday and has admitted that government has not done enough to fight gender-based violence.
Ramaphosa presented a plan involving departments including police, justice and trade and industry.
We cannot arrest our way out of this crisis alone. And we cannot wait until a woman is murdered before the State intervenes. Our task must be to prevent the violence before it happens.
