Gana says impeachment inquiry not distracted by Ramaphosa’s legal challenges
Chairperson of Parliament’s Impeachment Committee Makashule Gana said the Section 89 inquiry is not distracted by President Cyril Ramaphosa’s legal challenges to his impeachment.
On Wednesday, the Western Cape High Court will hear a key case brought by Ramaphosa challenging the lawfulness of a 2022 independent panel report that suggested he faces impeachment.
Gana said court challenges of Ramaphosa facing scrutiny over the events linked to the theft of US dollars from his Phala Phala farm were to be expected.
The Impeachment Committee is not a party to Wednesday’s court proceedings.
However, the outcome will have a direct bearing on whether the inquiry can continue.
