Several bystanders reported seeing the suspect fall to the ground after being struck by the vehicle. Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene, where the injured individual received treatment before being transported to a nearby hospital.

Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) arrived shortly afterward and secured the area while investigators gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses. Officers are also reviewing nearby CCTV and dashcam footage to establish the exact sequence of events and determine whether any criminal offences were committed by those involved.

The alleged victim remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police have not yet released the identity of the injured suspect or confirmed whether formal charges will be laid.

Street robberies and cellphone theft remain a concern in parts of Durban, particularly in busy commercial districts and transport hubs where criminals often target unsuspecting pedestrians. Authorities continue to encourage residents to remain aware of their surroundings, avoid displaying expensive mobile devices in crowded public areas, and report suspicious behaviour immediately.

Police reminded the public that investigations are continuing and urged anyone who witnessed the incident or captured video footage to come forward to assist detectives.
