EFF brushes off Malema’s NPA charges, hits out at AfriForum for ‘weaponising’ justice system
The charge of crimen injuria brought against EFF leader Julius Malema does not “faze” the party, it said on Wednesday, as it hit back at AfriForum for allegedly “weaponising” the justice system.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed earlier this week that it had decided to prosecute Malema for crimen injuria following comments he made about a magistrate.
The EFF, in a statement, dismissed the charges as a “frivolous” attempt to silence its leader.
The EFF remains unshaken by these desperate attempts to use the law as a tool for political persecution. We will continue to speak truth to power, regardless of the intimidation tactics employed by those who seek to protect the status quo.
The party further accused AfriForum of being the driving force behind the prosecution, claiming the organisation is obsessed with targeting Malema to advance its own agenda.
“AfriForum continues to weaponise the justice system to settle political scores, but they will fail,” the EFF stated.
