Ramaphosa widens SIU probe into KZN transport tenders and contracts
President Cyril Ramaphosa has authorised the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to expand its investigation into the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport, specifically targeting a range of tenders and contracts.
The expansion of the probe follows ongoing concerns regarding procurement irregularities and the management of public funds within the provincial department.
The investigation will now encompass a broader scope of projects, including infrastructure development and service delivery contracts that have been flagged for potential maladministration. The SIU is tasked with uncovering any evidence of corruption, fraud, or the unlawful expenditure of state resources.
This move is part of a wider government effort to address systemic issues in public procurement and ensure accountability across provincial departments. The SIU has been granted the authority to recover any losses suffered by the state as a result of these irregular activities.
