KZN police head Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi finally speaks on the issues with SAPS
KwaZulu-Natal police head Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said that there’s still hope for the South African Police Service (SAPS), despite ongoing corruption and political interference allegations.
Mkhwanazi was addressing officers set to run Sunday’s Comrades Marathon as SAPS representatives.
He said that their participation in the international race will help maintain a positive image for the police.
The comments come as SAPS faces a probe into corruption, abuse of power and political interference following Mkhwanazi’s explosive media briefing in July last year, which led to several high-ranking leaders being suspended.
“Because you are out there to market this South African Police service, we’re KILL doing it because you love it, it’s in your heart so behave wisely out there and make sure that represent the organisation very well.”
Mkhwanazi said that he will meet the runners on Monday to discuss what he calls the future of the service.
