Breaking news: Twelve suspects have been arrested for attempted
Twelve suspects have been arrested for attempted abalone poaching in the Cape Point section of Table Mountain National Park following an intelligence-driven operation by South African National Parks Environmental Crime Investigation unit.
The suspects were intercepted on Tuesday evening while allegedly on their way into the protected area.
Authorities searched two vehicles and seized a large quantity of diving equipment believed to be intended for illegal abalone harvesting.
The suspects were detained at Simon’s Town SAPS and are expected to appear in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 11 June 2026.
SANParks described the operation as a major success in preventing coordinated poaching activities and protecting South Africa’s marine resources.
