Lungu Back As Pirates Resume League Campaign

Orlando Pirates have confirmed a timely boost ahead of their return to Betway Premiership action against Durban City tonight, with Gamphani Lungu back from injury.
The Zambian winger was forced off early during Pirates’ 4-0 win over Kruger United earlier this month after scoring from the penalty spot, raising concerns that he could face a spell on the sidelines.
However, the Buccaneers have now confirmed that Lungu has returned to the squad ahead of Thursday night’s clash at Orlando Amstel Arena.
“Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou’s squad could be boosted by the return of winger Tshepang Moremi who was kept out of Champions League action by suspension, while Gamphani Lungu is also back after a brief injury spell,” Pirates confirmed on their official website.
The 27-year-old has made an impressive start to life at Pirates, scoring four goals and providing one assist in seven appearances, and his return comes at an important time for Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side.

Lungu was also recently named in Zambia’s squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Algeria and Togo. He is the only South Africa-based player included in the Chipolopolo squad.
Pirates will also be boosted by the return of Tshepang Moremi, who missed their CAF Champions League clash against La Cure Waves through suspension.
The Buccaneers head into tonight’s fixture looking to close the gap at the top of the Premiership after continental commitments left them with games in hand.
Pirates have collected 13 points from their opening five league matches and remain unbeaten, while Durban City sit ninth with six points from five games.
With Lungu and Moremi available again, Ouaddou has further attacking options as Bucs look to continue their strong start to the league campaign.
