A suspected vehicle hijacker was shot dead during a police operation in Soshanguve, Pretoria, after SAPS members intervened in a hijacking incident.
Police recovered the hijacked vehicle as well as a 9mm pistol with ammunition, which will undergo forensic testing to determine if it was linked to other crimes.
No police officers were injured during the operation.
SAPS has opened a hijacking case and an inquest docket, while investigations continue to trace a second suspect who remains on the run.
