The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) has made it crystal clear that criminality will not be tolerated on 30 June.

These remarks were made by NATJOINTS Chairperson, Lieutenant-General Tebello Mosikili, on Tuesday.

This as she led the structure’s briefing on its state of readiness ahead of Tuesday’s protest against undocumented migrants.

Mosikili issued a stern warning to those who intend to break the law during the protests.

She said that should criminality present itself in any form or shape, law enforcement will respond swiftly, proportionally and decisively within the confines and the framework of the law.

“Our message is simple: Do not test the resolve of the state. To those who intend to demonstrate peacefully, we assure you that your constitutional right will be protected,” she said.

Mosikili added that National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structures, together with Provincial Joint Operational and Intelligence Structures, will be functioning on a 24-hour basis.

According to Mosikili, weeks of meticulous planning, intelligence gathering, operational coordination, deployment, and operational operations have been undertaken by the justice and crime prevention and security cluster to ensure that officials are on high alert ahead of the protest.

She said contingency plans have been tested and simulated.

“The state is ready. Law enforcement is ready. South Africa is ready.”

Mi7 Armed Response teams on Monday apprehended three foreign nationals suspected to be linked to a string of residential burglaries in the city. The trio were caught after a daring high-speed chase from Northdale to Hayfields.

Mi7 was first made aware of the gang the day before, on Sunday, when Strategic Threat Response Unit members received information from a Northdale resident who had fallen victim earlier in the week. According to the resident, who had already opened a case with the police, the gang struck during the day, derailing the perimeter gate and using a crowbar to get through the front door. The resident’s teenage daughter was inside, and locked herself in a room while calling for help. The gang allegedly ransacked the home before fleeing, and luckily, no harm came to the teenager.

Mi7 STRU teams gathered CCTV footage of the incident and was able to identify the getaway vehicle – a blue BMW.

Then, on Monday, while conducting regular patrols in the same area, Mi7 Reaction Officers spotted the vehicle. When they saw Mi7 vehicles approaching, the suspects sped off, driving recklessly on oncoming traffic and speeding through red traffic lights and intersections.

Several other Mi7 teams were immediately mobilised, some joining the pursuit while others stood off at strategic locations to intercept. During the pursuit, the suspects were discarding items, like a crowbar, from the vehicle. The chase continued from Northdale onto the N3 towards Durban. The vehicle was successfully intercepted by Mi7 teams in the Hayfields area.

Three foreign nationals were detained on scene. Inside the vehicle was housebreaking implements, pepper spray, and what appeared to be a device used for remote signal jamming.

The matter was handed over to the police for further investigation. It is believed the gang may be linked to other cases in the Northern suburbs.

A coordinated intelligence-driven operation has resulted in the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of a stolen vehicle in Bryanston after a dramatic high-speed chase.

Law enforcement and security teams acted swiftly after identifying a suspicious vehicle travelling in the area. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off, leading to a pursuit that ended at Winnie Mandela Shopping Centre. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, but one suspect was successfully apprehended following a search of the area.

During the search of the vehicle, authorities recovered:

2 Signal Jamming Devices

2 False Registration Plates

6 Pairs of Gloves

Various Car-Breaking Implements

Toyota Prado Licence Disc Linked to Another Case

Further investigation confirmed that the vehicle was stolen and linked to an active case. The recovered licence disc also tested positive in connection with a separate investigation.

Signal jammers are commonly used by vehicle theft syndicates to block tracking devices and remote locking systems, making this recovery a significant blow against organised vehicle crime.

We commend all members involved in the operation, including SAPS, JMPD, Highway Patrol, private security partners, and community safety stakeholders for their commitment to keeping our communities safe.

Criminals may run, but they cannot hide forever. Every arrest and recovery brings us one step closer to safer streets.

Motorists are encouraged to remain vigilant, ensure their tracking devices are active, and report any suspicious activity immediately.
