The rumors, which circulated widely across various social media platforms, suggested that several heads of state had fallen ill due to food poisoning following the summit proceedings. These claims gained significant traction online, prompting an immediate response from Indian authorities.

The MEA’s fact-checking unit categorized these reports as “misleading” and “unverified.” Officials have urged the public and media outlets to exercise caution regarding the rapid spread of misinformation concerning prominent political figures.

The ministry’s fact-checking unit described the social media posts alleging mass food poisoning as misleading and warned users against spreading unverified information.

The 18th BRICS Summit, which brought together leaders from the bloc to discuss cooperation and development, concluded without any reports of health-related incidents involving the attending dignitaries.
