Mohafe situation at Gallants, as it stands

Marumo Gallants coach Phuti Mohafe finds himself at the centre of fresh uncertainty following Friday’s latest result, with developments at the club now set to provide a clearer picture of his situation.

Gallants were held to a 2-2 draw in a Betway Premiership by his former side Polokwane City on Friday night, meaning they are still searching for their first win of the campaign after five matches.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa have now collected just two points from their opening five league matches, having previously drawn 0-0 with Kruger United before suffering defeats to Stellenbosch FC, TS Galaxy and Mamelodi Sundowns.

The latest draw against Polokwane provided some relief in terms of ending the losing run, but it was not enough to completely ease the pressure surrounding Mohafe.

There have already been reports linking potential coaching candidates with the Gallants job, with the club’s winless start putting the spotlight firmly on the former Rise and Shine coach.

Despite the growing speculation, there has been no indication of an immediate change in the technical team as of Tuesday.

A source close to the club provided an update on the situation after the team returned to training.

“The team has just finished training, the morning session, and the coach is currently addressing the players as we speak,” a source close to the club told KickOff.com.

“So far, everything remains the same. But in football, you never know. But that is only what I know so far.”

Mohafe arrived at Gallants after leaving Polokwane City at the end of last season, having impressed during his time with the Limpopo-based outfit.

However, his new chapter has proved far more difficult, with Gallants still waiting for their first victory and sitting on just two points.

This website understands that the pressure is therefore unlikely to disappear, particularly with other coaches already being linked with the position.

It remains to be seen whether Gallants will decide to part ways with Mohafe, but sources indicate that his future remains at risk as the club weighs up how to respond to their difficult start to the season.
