The Tata Osprey, of which we’ve had an exclusive first look ahead of its official local launch, has finally arrived in South Africa.

The Osprey lineup comprises four models, priced from a hair below R250 000 to R329 900.

Employed across the range, the Osprey is equipped with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 88 kW and 170 N.m of torque. Power is delivered to the front wheels via either a five-speed manual gearbox or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCA).

The four-strong local Osprey lineup is priced from R249 900 for the entry-level, Smart+ variant equipped with five-speed manual transmission to R329 900 for the range-topping, Creative+ PS derivative. Bookended by the former and latter models, the Smart+ featuring a dual-clutch ‘box is priced from R279 900, while the Creative will set you back R309 900. Included with the package as standard are Tata’s five-year/125 000km warranty and a three-year/45 000km service plan.

Included with Smart+ specification are such items as 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment, replete with (tethered) Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, manual air conditioning, rear park distance sensors, LED daytime-running lights, and 16-inch wheels. Six airbags are standard across the range.

Creative trim upgrades to 10.25-inch Harman infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a four-speaker audio system, automatic climate control with rear air vents, a cooled glovebox, height adjustment for the driver’s seat, cruise control, a 360-degree surround-view camera, and blind-spot monitoring. Creative spec rolls on 16-inch alloys.

On top of the aforementioned spec, Creative+ PS gains a panoramic sunroof, two-tone exterior paint finish, automatic LED headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry and ignition, a wireless smartphone charging pad, rear centre armrest, and 60:40-split rear pews. Tyre pressure monitoring is also included with the flagship model.
