Another Sad Day As Officer is killed in a Hammer Attack
SECURITY OFFICER KILLED IN HAMMER ATTACK
A 37-year-old University of Limpopo security officer has died after allegedly being attacked with a hammer by her 44-year-old boyfriend at the university campus in Mankweng on Saturday night.
The woman was reportedly struck on the head while on duty and later succumbed to her injuries in hospital.
The suspect allegedly tried to flee but was pursued and apprehended by students, who handed him over to police. The suspected weapon was recovered.
He was initially arrested for attempted murder, but the charge has now been changed to murder. Police say the motive is unknown, although domestic violence cannot be ruled out.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 14 September.
