FIFA ban attached to Chiefs striker finally lifted!

Kaizer Chiefs striker Khanyisa Mayo will move towards the completion of his recovery from injury with another welcome development around his name.

Mayo’s name was dragged to FIFA after Cape Town City filed repeated cases with football’s mother body over the failure by Algerian club CR Belouizdad to honour payment agreements relating to his transfer.

It was two years ago that City agreed to transfer Mayo for approximately R20 million.

The agreement was that the payment would be made in three instalments.

CRB processed the first payment without issues but then gave City a torrid time with the other two instalments.

This then forced John Comitis’ club to pursue the FIFA legal route twice for both the second and third payments, forcing the world governing body to impose a transfer ban on CRB after they failed to comply.

They only then went ahead with the third payment in July, as previously confirmed to this website by Comitis.

However, the registration ban attached to Mayo’s name remained in place on CRB until three days ago, when it was lifted. This is according to FIFA, who had kept CRB on the ban list for another six weeks since they made the payment to City.

Mayo has since completed a permanent transfer to Chiefs after spending the past season on loan, during which he scored twice in 15 games.

Unfortunately, he is yet to play this season due to injury and is only expected back after the FIFA break.
