Faiz Abrahams showed glimpses of his talent that convinced the Kaizer Chiefs hierarchy to acquire him from Stellenbosch in a 24-minute cameo off the bench during his first appearance in Gold and Black against Richards Bay in Umlazi on Wednesday night.

The promising debut comes at a crucial time for Amakhosi, with new marquee signing Langelihle Phili ruled out for at least two months after twisting his ankle in training.

The timing of Phili’s injury has thrust Abrahams into a position where opportunity has arrived sooner than expected.
The 21-year-old arrived earlier this month on loan for the season with an option to make the move permanent, and his debut suggests he may be ready to seize the moment.
“It was my first time travelling with Kaizer Chiefs. It felt good to be included and I appreciate the coach’s belief in me. I have worked hard since I arrived and I am grateful for the support I have received and honoured to be playing for this great club,” he told the Chiefs media department.
Phili’s absence represents a significant blow for coach Fernando Da Cruz, who described the injury as “the bad news of the week.”
The under-20 international had made a positive impact since his move from Stellenbosch at the start of the month, scoring against Mamelodi Sundowns in Chiefs’ third match of the season.
He had recorded two league starts and one substitute appearance before the non-contact training incident sidelined him.
Da Cruz has been looking to younger players like Phili to execute his vision of high-tempo football at Naturena. Now, Abrahams finds himself perfectly positioned to step into that role.
Naturally left-footed, Abrahams was introduced midway through the second half against Richards Bay as an inverted right winger, with a clear remit from Da Cruz to help overturn the 2-1 deficit Chiefs faced at the time.
“The coach told me to go out there and create chances for us to get back into the game,” he reveals. “I think I made a few opportunities that we might have scored from, so I am quite happy with how I did.”
