Suspended Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi and five others are expected to continue with their bail application in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court.

The six accused face charges of murder, robbery and defeating the ends of justice among others.

The charges emanate from their alleged involvement in the 2022 murder of Brakpan resident, Emmanuel Mbense.

Mbense was allegedly kidnapped, tortured and killed, and his body was dumped in a dam in Nigel.

During their last appearance earlier this month, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) investigating officer faced cross-examination from the legal team for the second applicant.

The cross-examination is expected to continue on Thursday.– Reporting by Culvin Mabasa
