The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) has condemned ActionSA’s recent court bid to review disciplinary outcomes for two Presidential Protection Service officers linked to the Phala Phala investigation.

The party is challenging the SAPS disciplinary process that cleared General Wally Rhoode and Constable Hennie Rekhoto of wrongdoing in the case.

POPCRU president, Thulani Ngwenya, has cautioned ActionSA against what he says is turning the two officers into political targets.

“Now you find political parties like ActionSA who are not even part and parcel of labour relations and also part and parcel of a recognised union within. They want to enter into a terrain which does not belong to them. The terrain of the discipline is a matter between the employer and employee is not a political battle. This is what we call political interference and wanting to use these members as their campaigning strategy, which we are not going to allow.”
