Vehicle recovered and firearm arrests made in the OR Tambo District
OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, welcomed the arrest of four male suspects, the recovery of a vehicle suspected to be stolen and unlicensed firearms in different parts of the district from Monday, 24 August, until Wednesday, 26 August 2026, during intelligence-driven operations.
In the first incident in Qumbu, on Tuesday, 25 August, at about 13:30, the Tactical Response Team deployed in OR Tambo, together with Crime Intelligence members, were following up on information regarding wanted suspects. A 46-year-old male suspect and his 26-year-old male companion were arrested in the Qumbu CBD for unlawful possession of a Toyota double-cab vehicle suspected to be stolen. A circulation check revealed that the vehicle had been reported in a case opened at Parow SAPS in the Western Cape in April 2026.
In another unrelated incident in Ngqeleni, on Wednesday, 26 August, at about 00:15, two male suspects, aged 40 and 42, from Mzonyane Locality, Mphimbo A/A, were arrested at their respective homesteads during an intelligence-driven operation by Ngqeleni Crime Prevention members for unlawful possession of prohibited firearms. A total of five live rounds were also recovered.
All arrested suspects are expected to appear before their respective Magistrates’ Courts soon.
