Truter Defends Chippa Despite Winless Start After Pirates Defeat

Chippa United head coach Brandon Truter reflected on the Chilli Boys’ disappointing 3-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates at their temporary home of Kings Park Stadium in Durban.

Truter reflected openly on his side’s mixed performance against Orlando Pirates after Chippa United suffered a 3-0 defeat to the defending Betway Premiership champions on Sunday.

Speaking to the media after the match, coach “Brakkies” Truter admitted that lapses in concentration ultimately proved costly, with the Buccaneers scoring three times in the final 30 minutes to secure a convincing victory in Durban.

The result extended the Chilli Boys’ winless start to the new Betway Premiership campaign, with Chippa having collected two draws and now a defeat from their opening three matches.

Truter was, however, encouraged by his team’s defensive structure and the way they managed to contain a dangerous Pirates outfit for much of the contest. The Chilli Boys remained organised for an hour before Gamphani Lungu broke the deadlock in the 59th minute.

Once the visitors found the opening goal, Chippa’s concentration levels dropped, allowing Pirates to take control and add two more goals in the closing stages.

Despite the setback, Truter remains confident in his squad and believes they will eventually find their rhythm. His main concern, he explained, is how quickly the team can regroup after conceding and maintain their focus when matches begin to turn against them.

The Chilli Boys mentor also touched on the team’s physical conditioning at the start of the new season, while highlighting the challenges created by the club’s ongoing uncertainty around home venues.

For Truter, Sunday’s defeat offered both warning signs and positives, with the structure shown for long periods providing something to build on as Chippa search for their first win of the campaign.
