Mailula Joins Elite Company In Record Time

Cassius Mailula’s equaliser against Kaizer Chiefs was his 10th league goal for Mamelodi Sundowns, and the milestone places the striker in elite company within the club’s PSL history.

According to OptaJabu, Mailula has needed just 17 appearances across two spells with the Brazilians to reach the 10-goal mark. In Sundowns’ PSL era, only Lucas Ribeiro and Brayan Leon have reached the milestone faster.

Ribeiro remains the benchmark, needing just 12 appearances to score 10 league goals for the club. Leon required 15 matches, while Mailula’s 17-game return places him third on the list ahead of several prolific names.

Raphael Chukwu needed 19 appearances, while Peter Shalulile, widely regarded as one of Sundowns’ most clinical strikers in recent years, required 20 matches. Leonardo Castro and Iqraam Rayners both needed 21 games, with Nyasha Mushekwi rounding out the top eight at 22 appearances.

Mailula’s ability to consistently find the net across two separate spells demonstrates remarkable efficiency. The striker’s return rate suggests that, despite time away from Chloorkop, his understanding of Sundowns’ attacking system and his instincts in front of goal remain sharp.

With the milestone now achieved, Mailula will aim to add to his tally as Sundowns pursue another dominant campaign.
