Three killed, two wounded in shooting at Newclare flat in Joburg | News24
Three people were killed and two others wounded in a shooting at a flat in Newclare, Johannesburg, on Saturday night.
Police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed that the Sophiatown police opened three murder and two attempted murder cases following the shooting at around 21:30.
Sibeko said officers were called to the scene after receiving a complaint of a shooting.
“Upon arrival at the scene, community members pointed out a flat where they alleged that several people had been shot,” Sibeko said.
Police entered the flat and found three victims, aged between 18 and 20, lying inside. The victims were declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

Two other victims, aged 18 and 23, had also sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to the hospital for further treatment.
“The suspects are unknown at this stage, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation,” Sibeko said.
The shooting comes amid renewed concerns over gang violence in Gauteng, with two Anti-Gang Unit officers killed in an alleged ambush in Reiger Park on 7 August.
While police have not linked Saturday night’s shooting to gang violence, social media posts circulating after the incident suggested rival gangs were involved.
Newclare and neighbouring Westbury have been plagued by gang-related violence, with rival gangs and illegal firearms a longstanding concern in the area.
