Makume Finds New Club After Baroka Exit
Experienced defender Bonginkosi Makume has found a new club in the Motsepe Foundation Championship ahead of the start of the 2026/27 campaign this week.
Makume was at Baroka FC, but after the club got relegated to the ABC Motsepe League, the former Maritzburg United man has found himself a new home in the same province of Limpopo.
The 30-year-old defender has signed for Venda FC, who are coached by Clinton Larsen, and will be hoping to make an impact at the club as they look to challenge for promotion in the coming season.
Makume was at the pre-season Mafori Cup with Venda in Polokwane in July, but he had not signed a contract at the time. Soccer Laduma was informed that he was still in negotiations with Venda at the time and now a deal has been finalised for him to join the side.
The central defender will add valuable experience to the club that already has the likes of Malcolm Jacobs and Deolin Mekoa on their books.
Venda have worked behind the scenes to bolster their squad for the new campaign. The club confirmed the signings of Cameron Carnell, Goodman Chirwa, Cohan Daniels, Douglas Mapfumo, Bongani Mpandle , Stevens Goovadia and Donald Makgetlwa. Muyeka Mashiku, the 25-year-old from Namibia, has also joined the club.
Mashiku scored 18 goals and provided seven assists for Gunners FC in the Namibian Premier League last season and a lot will be expected of him, especially after Venda’s poor record in front of goal last term.
