Drunk Driver Arrested After Crash: Verulam – KZN

A motorist was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol following a collision at the Jabu Ndcobo Road & R102 intersection in Verulam – KZN yesterday evening (Saturday, 15/08/2026).

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance at approximately 19:36. Reaction Officers were dispatched and located a white Hyundai Grand i10 and a white Toyota Rumion at the scene.

According to the Hyundai Grand i10 Driver, he was travelling southbound through a green traffic light when the Toyota Rumion turned across his path towards Jabu Ngcobo Road. The Toyota Rumion allegedly failed to stop and collided with the Hyundai Grand i10.

Three (3) passengers were travelling in the Hyundai Grand i10. Two (2) adults and a three-year-old girl were passengers in the Toyota Rumion. No serious injuries were reported. The child sustained a minor scratch to her face.

Police examined both drivers and established that the Toyota Rumion Driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. He reportedly became uncooperative and falsely claimed that his wife had been driving the vehicle.

The driver was arrested by members of the South African Police Service (SAPS).
