The community of Reiger Park in Ekurhuleni remains in a state of shock following the arrest of 23-year-old Regan Collis, who stands accused of a horrific quadruple murder. The suspect made a brief appearance at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court this week, where chilling new details emerged regarding his criminal history and the extent of his alleged involvement in local violence.

The Charges

Collis faces a total of nine charges, including four counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances. Additionally, he faces charges related to the illegal possession of a firearm and violating the Firearms Control Act. According to Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale, investigators have now linked Collis to a fifth victim—a person who was shot and wounded during the same violent spree that claimed the lives of four others last Friday.

A Pattern of Criminality

Perhaps most alarming is the revelation that Collis was already out on bail at the time of the killings. Court proceedings revealed that he is currently tied to six other pending cases within the same jurisdiction, many of which involve gang-related violence. Colonel Mogale confirmed that the suspect is a well-known figure in the local gang scene, with a rap sheet that includes multiple counts of murder and armed robbery. During the hearing, Magistrate Sipho Manana issued a stark warning to the accused, noting that the severity of his alleged crimes could result in multiple life sentences if he is convicted.

The Investigation Continues

The victims of the Friday night shooting included two dedicated members of the anti-gang unit, Constables Thapelo Tlomatsana and Sphiwe Sibeko, who were stationed in the area to combat rising criminal activity. Two civilians, Jaydin Magerman and Rolene Lessing, were also tragically killed. Authorities believe that Collis did not act alone and are actively pursuing leads that could result in further arrests.

Collis is expected to return to court on August 25 for his formal bail application.
