The Eastern Cape Provincial government believes the newly expanded Edge Day Hospital in Gqeberha will bridge gaps in access to specialised care and reduce backlog.

The private hospital, which was first built in 2021 and consists of four theatres and 23 beds, was officially opened on Monday. The hospital is a result of a partnership between the public and private sectors.

“We said let’s perhaps bring reforms around the issue of licensing, which has been a stumbling block. Opening up the sector brings opportunities for entrepreneurs who are coming into this space,” says Eastern Cape Premier, Oscar Mabuyane.
