Gallery: 7 Potential Soweto Derby Debutants

As the first Soweto Derby of the season approaches, Soccer Laduma looks at 7 players who could make their first appearances in this iconic encounter.

It’s often described as a ‘make or break’ type of game and anyone who makes an impact in their first Soweto Derby is likely to be remembered for a while. So, the players who are set to make their debuts in this fixture have a big couple of days to prepare themselves mentally to play in front of a sold out crowd.

Quite a few of Orlando Pirates’ signings, such as Thapelo Mokobodi and Mthetheleli Mthiyane, have been able to break into the team and play regularly, giving themselves an opportunity to feature in the derby.

On the Chiefs side, their signings have not quite set things alight since joining.

Captain Brandon Petersen made his return to the team against TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout Cup last 16 on Tuesday night, so Renaldo Leaner is unlikely to get an opportunity to start for Amakhosi for his debut in the derby.
