Da Cruz: We Lost The Game Before The Penalties

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando da Cruz has reacted to his side’s CAF Confederation Cup elimination at the hands of Red Arrows.

Chiefs managed to secure a 1-0 win in the second leg to make it 1-1 on aggregate in the second preliminary round.

However, the Soweto giants came unstuck in the penalty shoot-out, with three of their players failing to convert spot-kicks.

“We dominated all the game, we created a lot of chances, we lose this game in the penalties, but I think we lost the game before because we missed too much chances, we only scored one goal. Normally, we must win this game three- four zero,” Da Cruz told SABC Sport.

The Chiefs tatician was pleased with how his side performed in all aspects despite not finishing their chances.

“No, the team played with confidence, played with a lot of personality, with the ball, without the ball so with what we showed today it’s not an issue of confidence,” Da Cruz said.

Chiefs will now have to put the elimination behind them as they ready to face TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout on Tuesday night.

“For sure, on Tuesday we have a game in Carling Cup, today we assembled the team, tomorrow we leave for Johannesburg and after from Sunday we prepare Carling Knockout to be qualified for the next round,” Da Cruz said.
