The South African Weather Service has issued a warning of a cold front bringing heavy rain and snow to the southern part of the country.

South African Weather Services forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela says minor to significant disruptive snow is expected in mountainous passes.

For the southern parts of the country, it is expected to result in scattered to widespread chances of rain and showers over the Western Cape to the southern part of the Northern Cape as well as cover the Eastern Cape and the coastal areas of both the Eastern Cape and Western Cape provinces. With very cold temperatures expected along most parts of the high-lying areas of the Eastern Cape, the Western Cape, and the southern part of the Northern Cape, stretching to the Drakensberg Mountains that lead into Lesotho.
