Judgment will be delivered in the bail appeal of a couple accused of fraud and money laundering at the Polokwane High Court in Limpopo on Thursday.
Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) officer Peter ‘Gagash’ Nonyane and his wife, suspended estate attorney Charlotte Tibana, allegedly defrauded deceased estate accounts of more than R11 million.
Nonyane and Tibana have been in custody since their arrests in August this year.
During their bail application, Tibana told the court that she should be released as she is the primary caregiver to her minor children.
She also told the court that her continued incarceration could force her law firm to close, putting her employees’ livelihoods at risk.
Nonyane argued that he is not a flight risk and won’t interfere with state witnesses.
The two are alleged to have funded their expensive lifestyle and bought luxury vehicles with funds transferred from some of the deceased estate accounts.-Reporting by Rendani Raliphaswa
