ANC Youth League president Collen Malatji has called for DA ministers to be removed from the GNU ahead of the November 4 local government elections.

The ANC Youth League’s call for President Cyril Ramaphosa to remove all Democratic Alliance (DA) ministers from the Government of National Unity (GNU) has exposed growing tensions within the governing partnership.

ANC Youth League president Collen Malatji called on Ramaphosa to remove all DA ministers and reopen discussions with other political parties, including the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

We are calling upon the GNU and the President to immediately remove all ministers of the DA and we are calling upon the President to reopen discussions with other political parties. The EFF must start warming up and behave, if they can warm up and behave they can come join the Government of National Unity.

Malatji accused the DA of destabilising the GNU and pursuing what he described as a racist agenda.

Kenneth Kgwadi, a research fellow at the Middle East Africa Research Institute, said the Youth League could not determine the GNU future. The ANCYL is not an authorised voice to talk on the discussions about the GNU, he said.
