Ramaphosa rejects the man chosen to lead evidence against him
President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially objected to the appointment of Advocate Thandazani Madonsela SC as the evidence leader of Parliament’s Section 89 Impeachment Inquiry Committee.
Chairperson of the committee, Makashule Gana, confirmed that they had received a formal objection from the President’s office on 18 August 2026.
The President has raised concerns over the appointment, arguing that Madonsela’s previous involvement with the president and the ANC creates a potential conflict of interest.
