A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 33-year-old woman in Mariasdal Trust, Thaba-Nchu in the Free State.

Police say the woman was sleeping when the suspect allegedly forced his way into her home late on Friday night.

She was found with multiple stab wounds and a severe neck injury.

Police Spokesperson Thabo Covane says an eyewitness, who was at the house, managed to flee and call for assistance.

Covane says the suspect was traced and arrested following an investigation by Selosesha detectives.

He is expected to appear in the Thaba-Nchu Magistrates’ Court on a murder charge.

“Upon returning to the house with help, the witness found the door closed. After forcing entry, they discovered the victim lying on the bedroom floor with multiple stab wounds and a severe injury to her neck. The suspect had already fled the scene through a bedroom window. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were summoned to the scene, but tragically, the victim was declared deceased. Following an intensive investigation by Selosesha detectives, the suspect was successfully traced and arrested today,” says Covane.
