Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has publicly rejected growing calls to dismantle the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), sparking a polarized debate among South Africans regarding his stance.

The IDAC remains a critical instrument in the fight against state capture and corruption, and we cannot afford to scrap it simply because of leadership grievances or political maneuvering,

Malema stated during a recent press briefing. His defense of the institution comes at a time when the directorate is facing intense scrutiny following allegations against its leadership, including Advocate Andrea Johnson.

While some supporters of the EFF leader argue that his position is a pragmatic approach to ensuring anti-corruption efforts continue, critics suggest that his defense of the IDAC is inconsistent with his previous scathing attacks on the unit’s leadership. The public remains deeply divided, with many questioning whether Malema’s support for the institution is based on principle or strategic political interests.
